JAPAN COLLECTS BRONZE FOR 4TH STRAIGHT YEAR AT WOMEN’S WORLD CUP


LEIVIN, France (March 6) – Japan defeated Canada 6-1 in the third-place final and collected a bronze medal for the fourth straight year on the final day of the World Cup of women's wrestling.

World champions Hitomi Sakamoto (48kg) and Kaori Icho (63kg) posted wins in the final to finish the two-day competition with a perfect 4-0 record. World bronze medalist Kyoko Hamaguchi registered a fall for her third win against a loss.

In the first-place final, China edged the United States to win its fifth straight World Cup crown. Mongolia, a last-minute replacement for Sweden, defeated Russia for fifth place and Kazakhstan took seventh place with a win over host France.
