OSAKA (December 3-4) – Tokuyama University edged Fukuoka 4-3 in the finals of the West Japan collegiate wrestling autumn dual-meet championship to win its first league title in 10 seasons. The win was also Tokuyama's 16th overall in the semifinal league championship.
Tokuyama's triumph was keyed by 2-1 wins by Masahiro Morita (55kg) and Eiji Takagi (74kg) after the two rival schools had dueled 2-2 through the first four bouts at Kanaoka Park Gymnasium in the Osaka suburb of Sakai.
Meanwhile, in the second division, Tezukayama University took first place on criteria for its first division crown over Tenri University and Kyushu Kyoritsu University after all three schools finished two wins and a loss each.
Tezukayama, but virtue of its win, was promoted to the first division for next spring's dual meet tournament, while Kinki University was relegated to the second division.
