MORISHITA WINS 3RD JR NAT’L TITLE, 2ND JOC CUP AS MEET’S OW


 YOKOHAMA (April 21-22) – Fumitaka Morishita won his third junior national crown and his second outstanding wrestler award at the JOC Junior Olympic Cup junior national championships at Yokohama Bunka Gymnasium.

 

Morishita of Nippon Sports Sciences University defeated three-time high school national champion Yuki Takahashi 2-0 in the men’s freestyle final at 55kg.  Takahashi, who was also the 2010 Youth Olympics gold medalist, is in his first year at Yamanashi Gakuin University.

 

Also in freestyle, last year’s collegiate national champ Masaru Ikeda of Nihon University won the 66kg crown while Daisuke Shimada (Kokushikan) and Koki Yamamoto (NU) repeated as junior national champs at 74kg and 96kg, respectively.

 

In greco-roman, NSSU wrestlers bagged three titles with collegiate champ Takaharu Nakamura (NSSU) taking the 74kg title and incoming freshman Minoru Ota winning at 55kg.  Arata Sonoda from Hino high school in Shiga was the lone high school student to win in the men’s events, snaring the crown at 120kg.

 

In the women’s competition, junior world champ Sara Dosho of Shigakkan high school won at 67kg while former teammate Eri Tosaka won the 51kg crown in her first year wrestling for Shigakkan University. Kazuko Sakagami (59kg) and Tamae Yoshii (72kg) added a pair of titles for Shigakkan.

 

Tosaka, a bronze medalist at the Asian senior championships in February, was named the outstanding wrestler in the women’s events.
