JAPANESE GIRLS WIN 3 MORE GOLD, TEAM TITLE AT ASIAN CADET C’SHIPS


ULAN BAATAR (July 27) – Three Japanese girls won gold medals and secured Japan’s first team title in six years on the third day of the Asian cadet wrestling championships.

Kumi IRIE (52kg, Fukuoka), Yumemi KOSHIMIZU (60kg, Kanagawa) and defending champion Misuzu TAKAHASHI (65kg, Tokyo) all won titles on the final day of girls wrestling and secured the girls first Asian team title since 2007.

Along with the three gold medalists, Rie IWASAKI (Saitama) added a silver medal at 56kg.  Misa ASANO (Toyama), meanwhile, notched a win against two losses in the round-robin format at 70kg and had to settle for fourth place.

Boys’ freestyle events also got under way with Taiki ARAKI (Kumamoto) grabbing a bronze medal at 46kg.  Japan’s other two entries, Kojiro SASAKI (42kg, Gifu) and Satsuki SAOMOTO (50kg, Wakayama), however, both lost in their opening bouts and did not have a chance to wrestle in repechage.
