HUMENNE, Slovakia (July 17) – Kika KAGATA (JPN) won for a third year in a row as Japan crowned three on the opening day of female wrestling at the Cadet Wrestling World Championships.
Kagata won four bouts by fall or technical fall at Humenne Hockey Stadium, capping her career as a cadet with a fall over European champion Leyla GURBANOVA (AZE) in the 49kg final.
Meanwhile, making their debuts at the world championships two-time Asia champion Ai TAGUCHI (JPN) won at 38kg and Yui SUSAKI (JPN), winner at the Klippan Open in February, also marched to her first world title with four wins at 43kg inside regulation time.
Kumi IRIE added a bronze medal for Japan with a 9-2 win over 2013 European champion Tatyana RIZHKO (UKR) and Yuki KIMURA posted a win over European bronze medalist Aleksandra KOTLEWSKI (POL) at 65kg, but fell out of the medal chase with a loss to another Euro bronze medal winner Alina LEVITSKA (UKR) in the quarterfinals ad finished in eighth place.
