SZOMBATHELY, Hungary (March 7) – Asian Games silver medalist Ryutaro MATSUMOTO posted a pair of wins on the opening day of the Hungarian Grand Prix, but fell short of winning a medal after a loss to 2012 junior world bronze medalist Dominik ETLINGER (CRO).
Matsumoto also forfeited in the consolation bracket to finish 14th overall among 42 entries at 66kg.
Tomohiro INOUE (66kg), Takehiro KANAKUBO (75kg) and Arata SONODA (130kg) also notched wins in their opening matches, but were unable to advance any further in their respective brackets. Overall, Sonoda placed highest, finishing eighth among 18 entries at super heavyweight.
