TOKYO (January 15) – Satoru Goitsuka won the 69kg crown for wrestlers between the ages of 51 and 55 for his ninth overall title at the All-Japan Masters Championships.
Goitsuka’s triumph at the Olympic Memorial Youth Center gave him claim to the record for most masters titles ahead of former high school teammate Toshio Asakura.
Meanwhile, 86-year-old Katsuyoshi Yonemori renewed his record as the meet’s oldest entrant even though doctors said he should not compete. Despite being ill, Yonemori showed up at the arena to renew his record as an official entrant.
A total of 208 wrestlers, including nine women, competed in eight divisions, ranging in age from 35 years old to Yonemori who was entered in the 66 years and older division.
