NIIGATA, Niigata (August 3-5) – Ryuta Yonaha won his second major high school title of the year and was named the outstanding wrestler of the national high school wrestling championships individual competition.
Yonaha of Urasoe Kogyo high school in Okinawa rolled to the title at 84kg to add to the high school national invitational crown he won in March. Kazuma Ito of Kyoto's Amino high school also doubled up on the spring and summer titles with a win at 60kg.
Heavyweight Shinya Yamamoto was the only individual champion from team titlist Hanasaki Tokuharu of Saitama after he defeated invitational winner Arata Sonoda from Shiga in the semifinals.
Team runner-up Kasumigaura of Ibaraki had two champions after Asia cadet champion Rei Higuchi rebounded from a loss in the dual-meet final for the 55kg title and Yusuke Yoshikawa took the 96kg crown.
Meanwhile, the younger brother of 2012 Olympian Sosuke Takatani, Taichi Takatani of Amino (Kyoto) high school won the 66kg crown with a win over invitational winner Shohei Yabiku of Urasoe Kogyo in the final.
