FUKUOKA (August 17-19) – Ryuta Yonaha and Arata Sonoda successfully defended their crowns at the high school greco-roman wrestling national championships in Fukuoka as Yonaha and Shohei Yabiku gave Urasoe Kogyo high school (Okinawa) two individual champions.
The title was Yonaha's third high school crown of the year at 84kg, after triumphs in the high school (freestyle) invitational and the high school (freestyle) national championships.
It was also a third triumph at 120kg for Sonoda of Higa high school (Shiga), who was also an invitational winner as well as the champion at the junior national championships in April.
Yabiku (66kg) and Masao Okui (74kg) of Wakayama Kogyo won titles at the cadet national championships. Yabiku was also an invitational winner, while Okui to a title at the freestyle nationals.
Kenichiro Fumita from Nirasaki Kogyo in Yamanashi did not give up a point in six bouts as he claimed the title 55kg, and repeated as high school greco-roman champion after winnin at 50kg a year ago.
