TOKYO (November 15-18) – Yuichiro Mizuarai won a silver medal in the gi events and a bronze medal in the no-gi events at the grappling world championships in Krakow, Poland.
Mizuarai of the X-treme Jujutsu Academy lost to European champion Amir Albazy (SWE) in the 62kg gi final by decision and again to eventual double gold medalist Albazy in the no-gi semifinals.
Meanwhile, 2010 world champion Takanori Kuno lost in the quarterfinals to 2011 world champ Bruno Tomasetti (ITA) and had to settle for fifth place in the gi competition after a loss to Shamil Gamzatov (RUS) in the bronze medal final.
Kuno lost his first bout in the no-gi event and slumped to eighth place.
