CHONBURI, Thailand (May 8 ) – Takashi ISHIGURO opened up in the final to win the boys freestyle title at 85kg by technical fall as Japan won three events on the opening day of the Asian cadet wrestling championships.
Ishiguro of Hanasaki Tokuharu high school in Saitama became the seventh Japanese wrestler to win in the boys events in the history of the Asia meet and first since 2012 when Rei HIGUCHI won the 54kg crown in freestyle.
Ai TAGUCHI and Kyoto middle school student Manami UENO racked up five wins by technical fall and two by fall on their way to titles in girls freestyle, giving Japan three of the gold seven medals on offer on the first day of he championhships at Chonburi municipal arena.
In greco-roman, Yuta KOTERA advanced to the bronze medal final but fell, 1-6, to Ahmed KIFAH (IRQ) and settled for fifth place – Japan’s best finish in the classic style on opening day.
