YOKOSUKA, Kanagawa (August 4-5) – Cadet world champions Miho IGARASHI and Kika KAGATA won titles in female wrestling at the national high school wrestling championships while world bronze medal winners Haruna OKUNO and Kumi IRIE also took home championship belts.
Irie (60kg) and 2013 cadet world champ Misuzu TAKAHASHI (65kg) repeated as high school national champs while Okuno (52kg), Yuzuru KUMANO (56kg) and Mei SHINDO (70kg) won as first-year students for their respective high schools.
Wrestlers from seven different high schools divided the seven titles in the weight categories contested in the championships.
Igarashi, who won by technical fall in the 46kg final, was named the outstanding wrestler of the girls’ events.
