KLIPPAN, Sweden (February 14-16) – Youth Olympic Games gold medalist Mayu MUKAIDA won her first senior title and three-time cadet world champion Kika KAGATA grabbed her first senior medal at the Klippan Ladies Open wrestling tournament.
Mukaido overwhelmed four opponents, including Paris Grand Prix bronze medalist PANG Qianyu (CHN), 33-5, for her second international medal at the senior level. Kagata, meanwhile, pinned 2013 world champion SUN Yanan (CHN) in the semifinals at 48kg, but lost by technical fall to London 2012 Olympic Games silver medalist Mariya STADNYK (AZE) in the final.
Also at 48kg, two-time cadet world champion Miho IGARASHI lost to Stadnyk in the quarterfinals and again in the bronze medal final with world silver medalist Iwona MATKOWSKA (POL).
