MAEDA, FUJIMOTO SILVER IN DAVE SCHULTZ FREESTYLE

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (February 4) – Shogo Maeda and Kohei Fujimoto won silver medals in the men's freestyle events at the Dave Schultz Memorial wrestling tournament, while Tomohiro Matsunaga and Atsushi Matsumoto took home bronze.

Maeda needed three periods to win in three of his four first matches and advance to the 60kg final where he fell to 2009 world bronze medalist Rizvan Gadzhiev (BLR) in two periods.

Fujimoto, meanwhile, edged a promising young Russian Ruslan Murtazaliev in the quarterfinals at 66kg, but was stopped in the final by Haislan Garcia (CAN), a fifth-place finisher in last year's world championships.

Beijing Olympic silver medalist Tomohiro Matsunaga, wrestling in his first international competition for Japan since the 2008 Games, stumbled in the 55kg semifinals to former junior world No. 3 Rasul Mashezov (RUS) but rebounded for the bronze medal.

At 84kg, Atsushi Matsumoto defeated Japanese teammate Shinya Matsumoto in the consolation semifinals and went on to win the bronze medal. Shinya Matsumoto, meanwhile, bounced back for fifth place.
