OSAKA (August 24-25) – Fumitaka Morishita led three Nippon Sports Science University (NSSU) to titles in the collegiate open wrestling championships at Sakai municipal Kanaoka Park Gymnasium.
Morishita, a bronze medalist at 2011 junior World Cup, defeated Yamanashi Gakuin freshman Yuki Takahashi in the 55kg final to improve on last year's runner-up finish.
Morishita's NSSU teammates Takuma Igarashi and Koyu Isokawa won at 60kg and 66kg, respectively, benefiting from a number of an injuries and upset losses by the top seeds.
Takushoku University wrestlers won two categories with Naoya Akaguma winning at 84kg and Shun Kinoshita upsetting defending champion Ko Osaka of Waseda for the 96kg crown.
Tomoyuki Oka of Nihon University, the defending champion at 120kg, was also upset by Katsutoshi Kanazawa, giving YGU its lone champion of the freestyle competition.
