ULAANBAATAR (January 14-15) – Minori Akeo and Yoshiko Inoue won titles in women’s wrestling at the Mongolia Open international wrestling tourney.
Akeo, the 2010 student world champ from Pacific Rim University in Okayama, edged former world champion Clariassa Chun (USA) in the semifinals and then won a 2-1 nail-biter in the final against two-time Olympian Tsogtbazar Enkhjargal (MGL) in the 48kg crown.
Reigning Asia champion Inoue defeated three wrestlers from the home team, including world silver medal winner Oyunsuren Banzyaragzh (MGL), at67kg.
Japan also received bronze-medal performances in the two-day event from Yuki Ikegami (55kg) and Kayoko Kudo (63kg) in the women’s events and from Manabu Kamata (74kg) and Seiji Suzuki (84kg) in men’s freestyle.
